Anyone else here doing some mushroom picking on your forest walks?

I recently stumbled upon good amount of chanterelles and since then, educated myself a little bit on choice edible mushroom growing in our local Midwestern forests.

This morning I found some chicken of the woods. My first time eating this mushroom. I simply sautéed it on butter. It has a nice texture, but not too much of a flavor of its own.

Back when we lived in New England we would go and pick chanterelles and leccinums. I've never seen mushrooms I'd recognize as edible in Illinois, which sucks, because in the old country mushroom picking was one of the more enjoyable late summer/fall activities.

Found a nice bunch of chicken of the woods yesterday! Love them stir-fried with vegetables, but they're supposed to be good marinated in teriyaki sauce and grilled. Decisions, decisions.
