Hello all,

Just found this place. There's some good stuff here.

I'm in the market for a new combo. I'd like to get a baitcasting setup around 7' in length, but there are two conditions:

1. I'm on a budget, so keeping the price around $120 for the combo would be good.

2. I'd like it to be a 2pc rod for transportation reasons.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
I'd keep any eye out for Bass Pro Shop combos. They are a good value and they often slash their prices.

If you are going to mix and match, I'd keep my eye out for the Shimano Citica. I believe the reel is getting redesigned (its big brother the Curado is) and I saw it on sale for $100 at Cabela's. You might find it cheaper as time goes on. That would be a great reel to start a combo with. Good fishing.

Here's a start with some to look at. I couldn't get the BPS site up right now, but they have the same type of choices.

Also, look around at some local baitshops, Dick's, Gander Mtn etc... Many many sales on right now on good stuff. Good luck!

I have never used besides playing with in store but...Daiwa Megaforce reels the one with the twitchin bar seemed pretty cool...I looked into buying one, just to play with the twitchin bar, but also because it is a higher speed reel.

well anyways I saw 4 of them go on Ebay last week for under 35. (reel only)...and they are 50 or so at cabelas.

Depends on if you need/want a twitchin bar.

Might want to take a look at the Cabela's Prodigy/Fish Eagle II combo... $20 more than the Megaforce combo, but a really good setup.

I have a Prodigy reel, and it's worked flawlessly for me this season. Cabela's reels are made by Daiwa. I have not used a Fish Eagle rod, but have heard good things about them.
