I need recommendations for a good rod and reel combo at Dick's under $50. I biggest thing I would be fishing for would be a LMB and a BIG MAYBE on a channel cat. The rest of the time it would be used for perch and Panfish. I am really not picky when it comes to what I fish for since I don't eat them. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help. :)

wow. that's not very nice. if you buy a decent reel you got no worries. Don't have to spend a whole weeks worth of payola. All I was saying.

Course when ya got all of the money of a dentist I spose you can buy whatever youe want.

Need a reel? Just pull out a tooth. or make their gums stop bleeding...lol

can you use fireline as dental floss? Or is that powerpro crud better.

ifish a ton. I know what iam talkin about toothdoc.

don't get the dick's brand called the "quest" series rods. they flipping blow, super crappy. they seemed nice and were very inexpensive, looked like a bargain at about 25$ on sale, but they are not worth a penny. They fish crappy, and break very easily.

there are some good deals on inexpensive shimano spining reels, you can't really go wrong with those like matt said. Id suggest a trip to basspro, and grab a rod there. Basspro brand rods are great for the price.

go with the quantum tenacity (49.99) or shaw grisby quantum combo (59.99)

the quantum tenacity comes both spinning and baitcaster.

shaw grisby is a spinning combo

just ask Jason he bought both also and I think he likes the shaw combo more. It's great for largemouth and smallmouth fishing 6'6 medium action rod. IM8 rod

Are you looking for a baitcasting combo or spinning combo?
I would not know the diffrence between the two. I do get the fact that a baitcaster is for fish things like crank baits though.

Thank you all so much for the help. I'll will be writing down all these names on the day I go to buy my new rod and reel so I know of at least a few good ones.

In my experience a 7 foot med action rod has the versatility to handle your described applications.

If you can find something in your price range the advice on Shimano products (given previously) is very good.

The "advice" that your reel doesn't matter....is NOT.
