My wife is amazing she suprised me with the yak I have been obsessing over for the last few months.

A yellow Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13. I can't wait to get it out on the water.

I am thinking of using it to hit the big pond for perch and even lakers if I get the chance so clothing recommendations are welcome as well. I can't wait to hit the water, but I am not going to do it until I am prepaired.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I mounted my Fisheasy using a Rammount as far aft as I can so I can reach the controls.

When are we headed out!

Rivers are still flowing!!!!

What I found with my Yak was less is more. When I loaded her up with my crate and gear and such it became more of a chore to get her in and out of the water and packed up and set up.
I was going with a guy in an Old Towne Otter and a rod and tacklebox.
I was sitting there strapping my crate on, loading my two rods in the Scotty Mounts, setting up my Anchor Line... etc... He was 200' out casting already.

In any event, Now I roll with a tackle tray, two rods laying inside the yak and the Cuda. :)

I hear ya there. I am setting myself up to be modeler. I can throw a rod holder in a mount or go without. I still need to get myself a wet suit to handle this cold water so I don't up and die. Having trouble finding my size so I am going to go to a dive store and have them help me.

As for the river. My canoe is better for that. I will take the yak but the canoe gets the job done well. I would like to hit up the warm water discharge at the Waukegan power plant this spring.

And thanks for the compliments Russ and Dan.

I will be using the battery bag at least while I am still in fresh water.

This is how I rigged the battery.

gave it the shake test and it worked out great. Got it hooked up to a Vexler charger that trickle charges it automatically.

8.5' Scotty rod holder extension. I got two, and figure I could use them with any of my Scotty mounts.

3 foot long sand spike I made that will be handy in the DPR keeping me in place.

And my Scotty light for safety and to make the USCG happy. All I need is a wet suit, VHF radio, PDF (I have a few but I want a new one) and a paddle and I will be hitting the water. I can not wait until Spring!

OK, Update. I made a camera mount, got a PDF and a thick 7mm farmer John wet suit.

I still need Neoprene booties, a Radio, and (get this) a paddle. A water proof camera would also be nice. The Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 is looking like the one.

I might look a sight stuffed like a suasage in the wet suit but it will keep me from dying a cold, cold death. I can almost taste the perch fillets now :D

That's a really nice setup! Where'd you buy the scotty light? I think it's the only thing i'm missing - and gotta register the yak.

A receipt, proof you paid sales tax. If you don't have one you have to fill a RUT-25 and pay Springfield. IL is a pain like that. The instructions are on the registration form. Email me if you have a question about it. In the mean time the copy of the filled registration keeps you legal.

Ok thanks! I should have known living in IL, getting a yak would be more complicated... Any idea if I get penalized for living in Chicago as well?

Here is my camera mount.

Half inch PVC fits right into the Scotty rod holder mounts. I drilled through a cap and used the head to a tripod my wife broke. You could also just use a screw to secure the camera to the cap. I figured I would be able to position the camera better this way. I also used silicone to seal the cavity so it floats. I have not tested it with a camera attached because my current camera is not water proof.

Here is a picture of monopod in the Scotty mount, I figure I would still feel safer using a water proof camera.
