In spite of the weather forecast, I was determined to get some fishing in at Old School today. Having my Frogg Toggs jacket was a big help, as it rained from 6-7, not heavy, but steady. After 7 there were brief periods of rain, but around 11 a.m. the sun broke through, and it warmed up. By the time I left at 1:30, it started to rain again.
I'm not going to bore you all with the details. I landed 12 today, all between 12" and 15". I threw a Ribbit Frog (buzz bait style), a Live Target Frog, a Shur-Set 3/8 oz Bluegill swim jig with a twin tail grub (green pumpkin and black/blue flake), some new soft plastics and some trusted standards. A couple of the new soft plastics did produce: Strike King Structure Bug in Chameleon (great for waters where Bluegill are the main forage), and the Strike King Rage Hawg in green pumpkin. Both of these produced well, as did the black/blue flake Structure Bug, and the green pumpkin Smookin Rooster and Space Monkey, and my Avocado Baby Brush Hog.
All of my fish came from the north pool, east side, in the pads or on the outside edge of the pads. I did get a couple of hits on the swim jig. I fought and lost a few, too. So, I made my numbers, both in length and number of fished landed, but I was hoping to encounter one of the members of the "Unicorn" family
I met another angler out there, toyasu. It was his first time out. He made his post in the "Other Cook County" forum. He had them dialed in, working the gravel area on the east shore near the southeast corner.
Next weekend I've got a volunteer activity on Saturday, so I probably won't get back out the Old School until the first weekend in August. I am looking forward to reading more posts from Woohoodude.
