I wanna get started trying some shore perch action.

Any suggestions on where or what to try out would be greatly appreciated.

Also too, Ill perch is closed for the entire month of july correct? Whats the bag limit?

Is wisconsin closed in july? and what are wisconsin's limits?

My suggestion:
Crappie Rig (which costs only $1.50-$2) with your bait of choice (Minnows, Soft Shells, Shrimp, Artificials, etc.)
Then just cast out as far as you can, let it sink to the bottom, and slowly drag it back to the shore. Thats how I do it =) Good luck.

Like the other guy said, however don't keep realling the line back in. Leave it out there and keep the line as tight so you can feel when the perch hits the bait. also i preffer minnows. but sometimes soft shells are what works better. i just had a 12 inch perch a few days ago.

Thanks for the tips, keep em coming!

Anyhow... after work on sunday I decided to drive to wilmette to see if I could get to the harbor, could not find any parking or decent access, so I drove on down to montrose.

Little did I know, the gay pride parade was going on! I couldnt get anywhere near motrose what with all the crowds and traffic and police blocks. QUITE a lot of characters out.

But as far as my first perch attempt, a complete failure.

Im gunna try out racine and other wisconsin harbors since I am much more familiar with them from past fall salmon trips.

I'd rather drive to milwaukee, racine, and kenosha harbors over driving downtown Chicago.

If anyone know anything about accessing wilmette please let me know. Thats the closest harbor to where I am located. Is wilmette decent for perchin anyway? (only seen a few post from there)

I've done pretty well at montrose recently. just get there at like 6 a.m. if not earlier. I think its closed for perch throughout July though so you might want to get on it.

I know a guy who fishes for perch in Wilmette but it's out of a boat, he hasn't done well from the shore there. Couldn't hurt to try though if you are near by. I think you can park outside the park and walk in but I'm not positive on that. Brandon is right, the season closes for July.

I know perching is open on the Indiana side too, but never fished that side. When is the end of the Perch season anybody? I know i can fish for them in August but are they gone by then? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I just go down to Montrose harbor. The action is amazing out there. If you gonna fish for perch might as well spend a few extra bucks and get you some soft shells. You will get much more action with the shells then you would with anything else. Lucky for us this month is almost over and we can get back to it.
