R.I.P. Greg Lake

I'm not sure what forum to put this in. I chose the big Lake Michigan as Greg was personally a very large Lake for the second half of his life.

I started listening (on an 8-track tape) to Emerson Lake & Palmer at the ripe age of six and they were my gateway drug to all kinds of other prog rock including Yes, Kansas, Saga, Rush and Dream Theater.

Gordon Lightfoot was awesome.

A few years ago, for the first time besides for fishing, I'd go out late at night and do a hard hour of kayaking for exercise. I'd put on an album. Everything from Metallica to Thin Lizzy to Gordon Lightfoot. He was an incredible songwriter. So sad...

R.I.P. Tim Bachman

Jeez! They just lost his brother Robbie (the drummer) a couple of months ago.

Tim Bachman, the co-founding guitarist and vocalist for Canadian rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive, died Friday from complications with cancer. He was 71.

Breaking radio silence to comment on this.

I was heartbroken when I read of his demise in the NY Times yesterday. IMHO he was one of the, if not the greatest singer/songwriters of the past 50-60 years.

I saw him in concert several times back in the day - each concert was a thrill. Can't say he had the best stage presence of anyone back then but each song was perfection - from Ribbon of Darkness to Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The Canadian Railroad Trilogy is arguably the best song ever written. Certainly the best 'train song' (with apologies to Steve Goodman) and the best song on a historical subject ever:

"Oh the songs of the future have been sung
All the battles have been won
On the mountaintops we stand
All the world at our command
We have opened up the soil
With our teardrops and our toil..."

PS - for Jim; the rumors of my demise aren't just exagerated, they are fucking wrong. ;)

I was going to do a Gordon Lightfoot RIP but figured Ron would get to it. Anytime I am heading to the Great Lakes the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is on repeat. Sundown is another favorite of mine.

I guess I can close my missing person's report on Rambler. Great to hear from you! I need some Busse reports in my life!
