I've got a place out west in Prophetstown by the state park about 4 blocks from the river. Zip is 61277 if you want to check out the city's page. You can also find a decent description in the ILDNR site. Heading out this week to mow, its fun having two houses, and to see if the water has come down at all. Been up over the wing dam that protects the boat ramp for weeks, real tough to fish. If anyone is looking for cheap real estate this is the place. House across the street from me is going for $67,000.00. Wish I had the money, but two is enough for me right now! Anyone ever fish this area? I have a hard time getting any info except from the locals. Jim

Welcome to the site, Jim! Glad you finally got on.

I've been wanting to fish the Rock River forever but just haven't gotten a round to it. You'll have to post some reports for us, Jim.

Welcome to WCF! There is real good catfish action from the shore by the Oregon dam. A nice mix of flatheads, channels and bullheads. If you have use of a boat, the walleye action right by the little island in front of the dam is supposed to be great. The area between the island and dam is supposed to produce some of the larger flatheads as well. I've never had a chance to use a boat on the river, but the creeks a little downstream by the state park are supposed to produce nice pike. Keep us posted. Good Luck!

I've fished the river near Oregon several times. Good antique shopping downtown, Eagle's Nest has good burgers, and there is a nice private campground called Stronghold off HWay 2, I think. There is also a small resort callled Lake Louise, much to my surprise it is a place my grandparents took me when I was a youngn'. Funny to see it again. Steve Tienamen (sp) is a local guide I have used and have had success with. Been a while, but a boat is a definite advantage for hitting the current breaks and getting down river to some of the better smallie territories off the bluffs. I know the fish are out by PTown, now to find them! Thanks for the welcoming words, guys.
