I have to resign from the club. Caught a nice little 3.5 lb LMB today at a golf course pond. It kinda felt like cheating though. But it felt great to get the skunk off my back.

 

let me resign too what pond was it ? I will be there tomorrow to catch him .

 

Im just gonna try 2 new ponds a day till I get a bass. Today I tried border collies pond and the pond in front of dicks lombard and got the skunk.

Yea, I just got back from there... I brought 4 rods with me, one with a rattle-trap, 1 with a Jign Chompers, 1 with a Senko, and 1 with a 4 inch white tube.

I got the Skunk. But before that I fished a pond near me for about 30 minutes, I saw 3 bass just sitting in about a foot of water along the north shoreline. I couldn't get them to hit a god damn thing :?

I will try again tomorrow.

BTW, I only fished an hour today... earlier. I was too busy getting things ready for tonites party! :mrgreen:

 

My stench is creating neighborhood panic. 5 outings since ice out, and the best I could muster was 2 bass the same size as the Baby -1 I caught them on.

To top it off, I spent a couple hours on a local backwater with my 3 year old this afternoon, and lost the biggest freshwater fish of my life. Tossing a red craw rattletrap up to a mid-lake hump, I got hit hard on a slow retrieve. The fish slowly allowed me to pull it in close enough to get a quick glimpse of what looked to be a 25 to 30 lb catfish (possibly flathead, very wideheaded, and short, but THICK!). It then proceeded to methodically strip all 150 yards of 15 lb. braid right off my Accurist!!!

There was no stopping it, and believe me I tried. It boiled the surface a few times before it disappeared into deeper water and ran me out of line. Hell of a work-out, and left me feeling like a stood-up prom date. :evil:

Better luck next time I guess...........

damn. i lost a nice steelie today after it popped my 6lb flouro. i was not happy. but a 30 lb cat??? man that sux

once while salmon fishing i almost got stripped completely. i then realized i had 20# braid and said the hell with it, and completely locked up my drag. the line held up! braid is extremely tough stuff

 

Well, I was locked up as tight as I wanted to be, thumbed the spool a couple times to get some extra pressure to try and turn her when she slowed a bit, but she was having non-of-it.

Couldn't even chase the fish down, the shoreline I was on was a sort of peninsula, so I would have had to get wet to get any line back.

My son kept telling me it was a shark, lol and he was bummed I didn't get it in too.

That's alright, I never catch anything big, why would today have been any different?!

 

Been out five times now two at Deep Lake two at Beck and once at Busse.

Of course broke every rule in the boolk by fishing on perfectly clear cold days and North winds but after five outings.....

Fished Hyde Park yesterday and today, only got one hookup this AM and it was the BIGGEST coho I'd ever hooked/seen... beautiful blue back on silver scales (I'd never seen the blue back before)... Got him to the shoreline and was unable to net him myself before he shook off the hook. Hard day for casting spoons. I decided to leave after powerliners after powerliners decided to criss-cross my path with their lines. C'mon there's a whole shoreline and you're powerlining and you gotta shoot diagonally into my only casting spot?

Powerliners on the other hand had a field day... Sat a group of 3 eastern Europeans got their 15 including this HUGE brown... and today a group of Hispanics having a good run as well... Couldn't communicate at all with the Europeans... a little bit better with the Hispanics. No luck for the African-American crew bobber fishing and who didn't know what a powerline was... Another African-American guy who just moved here from Cleveland and was just taking a walk asked me what kinda fish was in the lake. Told him there's just about anything, but right now people are fishing for salmonids from shore. He asked me if there was snapper... I told him that's saltwater.

Most interesting thing was the African lady (straight from Africa) who stopped me on my way out and asked me if I was coming and going. If I was just starting she was going to ask me to teach her how to fish. Turns out she'd just bought some new fishing equipment and was set to get some salmon. I saw her pull out an ugly stik combo pack, a plano box and another shopping bag... she'd said she had a net too. Interesting... I didn't have the heart to tell her she probably wouldn't be picking up any salmon with the get-up she had.

Losing that fish was heartbreaking today... so I had to go buy some at the market instead... but it just ain't the same...

I got a bunch down the road too. Back in the day I was a wild man for that kind of stuff, but not so much now. I actually have a pond that is sitting on the property of a muslim temple right across the street. Even though their fence is surrounded by barb wire there are not any "No Trespassing Signs." NO ONE fishes that thing. I may have to come out of retirement to fish that one this summer. Who know it may be blessed :lol: My thought has always been that if it is not posted, and not obviously in someones backward, fish it. The worst someone can do is ask you to leave (or shoot you with rock salt :roll: ).

 

Yea, I have not been on the golf course here for about 3 years. I just hit up the pond that it flows from into my neighborhood. They now have signs up. They went up this Spring. I have been fishing there for about 4-5 years with no complaints until these signs. A lot of people did fish it from out of the area though. I will see what happens. Like ya said, most they can do is tell you to leave. I think some golf courses may be stricter than others though.
