Hi can anyone tell me a good lake for smallmouth bass that is close to or in northern ill.

You might want to try the foxriver south of the Algonquian Dam

Fox river to me is world class smallmouth fishing try Montgomery dam area down towards Oswego

Hardly world class but nice to have it close to home.

Get up to North Bay in the Quetico Provincial Park. That’s world class.

Lake Michigan up in Door County would qualify too.
