They are just starting to make brief appearances along the lakefront. FishTech (formally Ed Shirleys) on Dempster usually is well stocked for the fall salmon run.
The reason that places are out of glow in the dark spoons is because they weren't well stocked in the first place and people bought what they had ahead of time. Jay is right, FishTech is usually well stocked.
the kings are plenty worthy of consumption, hell that's why this is such a busy season on the lake... the whole point is, they're going to die anyways after they spawn, so go ahead and keep as many as you're allowed to (5 per day per person) The best tasting fish are usually in the 5-10lb range, but all are good and tasty. It's salmon, though, so I guess you have to acquire a taste for it, many people don't like it. Personally, I love a salmon steak grilled up in some lemon butter sauce that I make myself. Just my 2 cents...
I have kept just about every type of salmonoid or trout on the lakefront and they all taste good to me. With that said though, store bought salmon tastes even better to me. My wife agrees also.
