Trout Reproduction

After catching two trout on my last trip out to Axe, I went home to clean the fish. On one of them, a huge load of eggs came out (see photos below). Do these guys actually reproduce once planted in that lake? I didn't think they would, but thought I'd ask you guys.

Its a natural habit, I bet they do try to spawn.
But if they reproduce, i doubt it.

Most get fished out pretty quick.
The water gets way too warm for survival and the quality might not be tolerable.

I fish southern Cook Co. lakes and only caught 1 dinker rainbow in the late summer.

He was small and hit a small crankbait.

If we see smaller 2-3 inchers in the future, then we'll know.

Don't think conditions are perfect for sustaining reproduction.

:D
Nice catch!

I believe that they are sterile. They have been doing the inland trout program for many years, and I have never heard of any natural reproduction. In a few of the lakes, some will survive the summer though. Silver Lake in Kendall County sometimes has an occasional big trout come out of it that has survived a season or two.
