After catching two trout on my last trip out to Axe, I went home to clean the fish. On one of them, a huge load of eggs came out (see photos below). Do these guys actually reproduce once planted in that lake? I didn't think they would, but thought I'd ask you guys.
Wow, I had no idea that those fish would have spawn in them. I have never seen that before. I would think that even if they did lay the eggs the fish wouldn't survive in a small lake like that.
I believe that they are sterile. They have been doing the inland trout program for many years, and I have never heard of any natural reproduction. In a few of the lakes, some will survive the summer though. Silver Lake in Kendall County sometimes has an occasional big trout come out of it that has survived a season or two.
