I stopped by at Montrose yesterday after work and saw a few small coho that were caught on powerlines. So this morning I went out for the first time in 2012. My plan was to be there around 9 am and stay until 2 pm, I had to be at work by 3PM. Arrived at Montrose just after 10 am, the wind was too strong and the waves too high to fish on the lake side, so I tried my luck in the harbor. I used powerline, 25 minnows floating 8-9 feet under surface. Took me a while to set up, I didn't want to shoot my weight in the harbor, so I walked all the way down to the end of one dock and threw my wight as far as I could, then brought the line back to the shore. I left at 1:45 pm, there were a few other guys in the harbor, some powerlining, some using rods, didn't see anyone else catching fish. Got this female brown trout around 11:30 all the way in the middle of the harbor (about 200 feet in). She was 24", 5lb 5 oz. She had only a fistful of regular size eggs left inside and a lot of tiny little ones.

If you do, make sure you have night crawlers with you. I was there on Tuesday morning and I only had minnows. Not even a bite! I just sat there and watched the other guys getting their limit on crawlers ... Even if they mixed up their baits on the same line, they still catch all the fish only on crawlers! Right now you have good chances of getting some coho , but don't expect anything big.

Pescar :What makes you think no ones catching fish without a powerline? Some of us have been catching trout all winter.Just because pictures aren,t posted doesn't mean fish are not being caught. There,s alot of lakefront out there montrose is not the only place to fish. You like powerlineing thats fine.Pulling in a little coho on heavy line is not my idea of fishing .25 hooks on a line to catch one fish?I was out the same day not at montrose got 4 one rod one lure. All I,m saying is powerlining is not the only method producing fish right now.

My bad, I ment to say nobody else that was out that day at Montrose caught any. I have no ideea how many fish are being caught on the entire lakefront, I just have a little info about the Montrose location. For example, my friend Lou got a king salmon today at 2:10 pm. :D
