I bought a rod for spinnerbaits awhile ago. I just started with baitcasters last summer, but I really like them and have been doing well with them. i got a bass pro shop 6'9, med. heavy, extra fast rod and put a bass pro qualifier on it with 7.1:1 gear ratio. I have 14 pound test mono on it. (I don't know what brand. Bass put it on for free.) i took it to Beck to practice. and I couldn't stop getting backlashes with it. I set the baitcaster up for each lure, and still got backlashes. I know it's not the reel because I put a crankbait on it and it casted perfectly. I also casted my worm and jig rod with no problems. With this information, my question is. What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE: I went to Fishtech today and switched from the Bass Pro Shop 14 pound mono to 14 pound Trilene green mono. I went to Beck and casted much better. I bought 3/8th once spinnerbait too and casted it fine. i also put a spinnerbait on my Dobyns 663c with 14 pound fluoro and casted it fine too. I think the Bass Pro Shop line was too cheap along with me being new to baitcasters. but I did fine today.
