I think you may have the term palmering slightly off. Palmering is wrapping hackle ('usually') , marabou etc. in a spiral action , evenly, usually all along or mostly along the length of the hook shank. A classic example would be a traditional wooly bugger hackle on the body.

You're getting it down nicely . Cool zonker/clouser-esk flies.
Crystal flash in those?

I think what I meant was for the first fly. Before when I wrapped in the marribou I wrapped it and then wrapped the thread over it. This one I tied it in, palmered? It, and the. Tied it off at the eyes instead of going back and wrapping over the marribou. It seems like the patterns come out better? Am I making sense?

Nice- Always a joy to see the traditional stuff as well. Ive been Fly Fishing as much as I can lately and definitely have a few favorite flys that I loose and gnarl a lot.. Been thinking of tying lately. :(

I hear that Steve!
Thanks navy!

They are starting to turn out a lot better. Turns out there's some great fly tying apps I bought one for $5. It's been a big help!
I've been tying a lot more b/c every fly I tie I have to also tie one for Jenna. I've got about 90 in materials including my vise and whatnot and I've tied about 40+ flies. So I've pretty much broke even so far.

We need to have a fly material swap meet/tying meet . It cuts costs greatly. I have TONS of stuff I'd give away.
What all does a fly swap involve? Either way I'm in.
Anyone have time maybe Thursday?

Well, we could use Marquess of Queensberry rules, or just make it fairly informal... :D
Right now I think just a get together to exchange patterns (info and/or actual flies) materials, FF spots, techniques, maybe fish...whatever.

I like this. I dont tie yet but that is a time issue more then anything. The desire is there!
That's what I used to say. Then I realized the time the lady wants to hang out at night n watch movies gave me the perfect amount of time to sit in the loving room n tie while we watch movies 8)

this thread is awesome! great job Woz- you're creations are inspiring. I wondered how that rabbit pelt at hobby lobby would work- now I know! Thanks for sharing

Do you find local bass more interested in natural colors or crazy colors?

Cb- thanks man! I find the bass hitting more on my minnow and zonker patterns with the rabbit.

I tried my hand at a few carp flies tonight I'm gonna be trying out in the morning.

The first is the fatty wooly bugger

I didn't have all the right materials so I improvised a little but these are my attempts at the backstabber.

And last is a mix. I call him the frankinrooster.

I used a size 4 hook
Abdomen is lead covered by peacock hearl.
Tail is marribou
Lower abdomen is flash, the furry part of the marribou
Head is orange neck hackle.

Left two peacock hearl strands and a little neck hackle on top I the head as well I dunno.
