Was not looking forward to fishing in the rain today ,but I guess I needed it to wash the stink off from Fridays shore outing. Got on the water at 2, cloudy, ese at 5-10, was promised upper 70s but don't think it got past 70. Decided I was gonna forego bass and concentrate on Walleyes today tying on a couple of trusted walleye cranks along with a spinner with a leader ,just in case.
Took an hour to find the 1st eye a 18" 2.2lber right before the rain started and it rained for more than an hour, that cleared the lake of the rental Yaks! Then I got the 1st bass a 14" 1.6lber, followed by a 18-1/2" 2.1lb walleye and then a 12" .7 lb eye right after. By then the boat had a few gallons of water in it and 5-10 mins of Lite rain and drizzle kept passing over every 15-20 mins the rest of the evening adding more. May have been a little wet and cold but the eyes were biting and I wasn't leaving! Kept moving around and nailed a 19-1/2" 2.6lb walleye, then saw some activity by some wood and threw in the spinner bait and a nice 18" 2.7 lb bass crushed it. Lots of black spots on that guy.
Sun came out for ten minutes and gave me a full rainbow with a partial double then clouds again with more drizzle. Back to the eyes and I lost what would have been a monster walleye when she flipped at the surface showing me her massive size and dove down head shaking and the lure pops free, had to be at least 5 lbs! what a bitch!! Quickly nailed a pale imitation ,a 15-1/2" 1.5 lb eye followed by a 15" 1.8 lb bass from some nearby weeds. Took a bit to find the next two , a 13" 1.1lb eye followed by the last one of the day a 22" 3.5 lb Walleye from the same area as the bitch I lost, and that felt good! Busse walleye can be tough and they made me work for each one, But that was the best walleye day I had in the last few years, I guess there IS walleye in Busse after all. Fished for about 5-1/2 hours and boated 7 walleyes and 3 bass, lost a monster eye and had as many missed lite strikes as I caught.
