I fished my catfish spot today. I landed 4 and missed at least a dozen. For some reason the fish would pick up the bait, run with it then let it go. I'm guessing maybe they were small cats that couldn't fit the whole bait in their mouth. Whatever it was I had a great morning with next to nothing boat traffic, no wind and pleasant temps.

I was drifting cut menhaden that I suspended off the bottom about 2-3 feet. Most of the action was in 45 ft of water.

Hell ya those are some nice cats from the deep! A buddy of mine was telling me he was down on Lake Norman(I think it was Lake Norman, it was in down in NC for sure) looking off a dock and there were a ton of huge blue cats that would hang out from people throwing food in the water. Running into some monster cats down deep would be fun on a kayak!

Joe the only smallies here are to the west of me a few hours. If I'm going to drive more than 2 hours I'm heading to the coast.

No noodling for me Ron. I'm still a city boy at heart.

Got 10 or 12 cats today. I lost count. I tried using chicken thighs that I marinated in strawberry jello, bacon grease and anise. The bite was on from 8-10. Then it died and I actually caught my biggest one while I was reeling in my lines.

Went out again today. Caught 11. Most were 3-8 pounds but I did get this big one. 22+ pounds.
Heck of a battle. It towed me around for quite a bit but I was able to subdue it and get in the yak for a picture and a weight.
