This year was year #10 of the annual Delavan Wisconsin Opener trip. For the second year in a row, my partners were cousin Nick and Chris. Lots has changed since the first opener. Got married, bought a house, had kids, changed jobs, new boat, new trip fishing partner(s).

Year 1

Year 2

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

Year 6 (solo)

Year 7

Year 8

Year 9

And finally year 10

This year was interesting in the fact that the power fishing of spinnerbaits/jerkbaits/chatterbaits/rattletraps was a super tough bite that we never got into. This style had highlighted every other opener, but the fish through us a changeup. Just about the only thing that consistently worked was plastics. Rigging 3 guys with a specific size/style plastic bait went through all my tackle reserves, but it was worth it.

Saturday morning

1 fish on a chatter

Switching to plastics. The occasional 3-4 pounder, but 2 lb males galore

The last 10 years have been fun fishing with Ben (Yami Master), Coyote, Nick, and Chris. Throughout the years we have also met and chatted with many members of several different sites, and friendships have been formed. You never know how long you are going to be able to continue to do something, so I cherish each and every trip and hope there will be more.

Looks like you guys had quite the weekend out there. It was nice running into you, too. We showed up expecting to find a bite on moving baits as well, but quickly discovered that it wasn't happening. You guys obviously had something figured out a little bit better than us, though, as is apparent by the quality of your fish. Hope to run into you out there again sometimes.

Thanks guys. Good to hear from you IF, and it was nice seeing you and IB on the water Waldo. Total fish on the boat clicker for 2.5 days was 152. Many of those fish were 2lb class males. Once we found a pod We would put on the spot lock and just hammer them. There was an occasional nice female mixed in and at a couple warmer points in the days we found them moving up. Still a big difference then past years when it was a 4lb average mainly sticking prespawn females in staging areas. I hit a big female in one of those areas that was spawned out already. I also hit a nice 20 inch female yesterday that was spawned out. I have a feeling things were running ahead of schedule with the streaK of warmer weather we had in April.

Nice collection of pics there Matt I think I've probably been a spectator to all of them since I know you've been on the fishing boards for years. Not a bad fishing trip up north in the bunch!
