I took these while doing an ultralight wade in '09. Only bad thing to happen that day was I broke a sweet, little Mitchell rod on my last cast.

I'm going back in April and can't wait.

I'm also a fan of Mitchell's UL rods
Yeah - as I said it was a sweet little rod - 6 footer. I had it for years & caught a lot of fish on it. I was on my way back down to my car & couldn't resist one more cast in a likely spot. The lure got caught up & I jerked the rod trying to free it. It snapped just above the handle - broke my heart.

At least I'd caught a good number of smallies & chubs that day. I replaced that rod with a 6.5 ft Quantum UL and a couple years after that bought a 7 ft Daiwa Laguna which is my go-to now.

IMHO that place is the most beautiful little stream in Northern IL.

Depending on how much backbone is left it's possible a guide could be removed and a handle and reel-seat could be fit on the same rod if you still have it. It'd be a 5.5' or so but still UL.

That looks awfully familiar, the second shot gives it away for me, if I'm right.

And if I am right, you would be right on the money about it being the most beautiful little stream in Northern IL.

If you like the little waters, you might like this. Time is going faster than my ability to accomplish these goals. I've barely made a dent in this list.

You guys are just in hibernation mode, got your creeks all scrambled. We all fish a creek that looks like that. Heck, my favorite northern illinois tributary looks just like that too.

Can't take a kayak down the one I'm referring to, unless you don't mind dragging it behind you.

Besides, the green vines hanging off the bluff in your shot narrows down the possibilities to two streams that I know of :D

Aux: That looks like a pretty stream. But Ken's right - you wouldn't want to try taking a kayak down the stream in question. Definitely a place for waders.

If I knew where the author lives I'd be tempted to do some B&E & steal that gazetteer. And because I think you know the stream in my shots, he mentions it...

High water kayak can get up to a little bit past the photograph location. Otherwise 'trespassing' on foot is the next method.

Aux: I PM'd you the name. If Ken does the same you'll know.

And I'd like to know where your pic is from.

Beautiful scenery there. That's the stuff that draws me in and before you realize it the day is gone and you are still out there. Serene perfection.

JB: Your comment put me in mind of a quote - the last lines from John Wesley Powell's 'The Exploration of the Colorado River and its Canyons'; ..."but if strength and courage are sufficient for the task, by a year's toil a concept of sublimity can be obtained never again to be equaled on the hither side of Paradise".

The difference between the Grand Canyon of the Colorado and the little canyons we have in Illinois is quantitative and not qualitative. You can lose yourself and find tranquility on even the smallest streams.

And speaking of the Grand Canyon here's a shot from the time I kicked myself in the ass for not having a fishing setup with me. I was sitting on a cliff maybe 25 feet above the river in Oct. '75 and realized there were HUGE trout swimming below me. It had never occurred to me that there might be good fishing at the bottom of the Canyon. One of those places I didn't fish & wish I had.
