Jason, your observations are right on! I'm here and have been here almost exclusively in the last year because this site has great people and information with the drama and politics left at the door where it belongs. So, we had a minor tiff among friends and aired our opinions appropriately. Both the results of the WCF ice derby problem and the discussion here served to make the planners more aware of how people plan their personal schedules far out around these events. I belong to another group that fishes once a month from April through September. By the end of Feb/beginning of March, I'm asking about the season's schedule so I can set up my vacation time to attend these dates.

Anyway, that is my add-on to this blog. Glad all discussed this and a decision was made. Now, let's move on and get some open water available for us. LZ

There are dates, no matter how far out I can't make either. But that's just how the cookie crumbles. The voting on dates just made hundreds of post with people whining. This method of selected dates brings that number down slightly - but not much.
The fun thing about our tournaments/get togethers is the camaraderie - laughs, stories, good times, and of course the fish.

The WCTT is still a grassroots thing and always will be. Other bigger tournaments are always available for anglers seeking something different. We will never have tourney dates that will accommodate all the fine members here at WCF. So we all just do our best and work within our own lives and schedules.
I'll be a late decider about this one. Gonna play it by the weather for that day. Kinda like going to Wrigley Field in April - beautiful place but April sure can make it ugly.
If you can't make it to a tourney (anybody, not just Jason) that is understandable. IMO, there's no point of arguing or debating with the tourney director about the dates...they are what they are. If the dates had to accomodate EVERYONE'S schedule they would likely never happen.
The cameraderie and fun are the reasons that I like to do the WCF tournies. It's nice to be able to go back to the bar, laugh and share stories about how/where fish were caught during the tourney. The main difference in WCF tournies and bigger tournies is the entry fee cost. Alot of the guys go back to the bar and have some laughs but rarely are guys going to give up their "honey holes" or bait secrets. One of the reasons the bigger tournies are succesful is that they are well organized. That way there are less controversies or "conspiracy theories".
