that's what i was thinking about the senko's. plus i would rather get good at a typical lure weight (like 3/8 ) rather than things I don't usually cast. i spooled up with some 8lb mono tonight cause that's what i had on hand. see how that works out tomorrow.

another ? I also noticed a difficulty with tossing to the casting arm side (my right hand casting to the right, 5" senko) i would get a wacked floppy kind of uncontrolled spaz in the cast. if i go directly overhand or the the left it seems to be fine, just a matter of thumbing the spool really. but to the right it was wacked out. any insights?

I mostly use Shimano Symetre 2500 FI's. I also like using the Sahara and Sedona with lighter rods for finesse plastic or live bait fishing with 4lb. Fireline. For baitcasting I have the Pete Mania Combo from BPS that I use for pike/musky and another older Shimano that I used for sucker fishing in the Summer.

Oh boy! I just went reel shopping last night, and after considering several, settled in on the vandam sig model quantum in left handed. Pretty friggin sweet. I really liked my bill dance sig reel, but this new one blows it away. I like the adjustments more than the shimano citica and curados I thought I would get before I went. The vandam wasnt my frist choice, but it was the closest to what I wanted that came left handed. Tried it out at a dupage fp pond on wooddale rd at lunch, and it ROCKS!

For baitcasting I have the Shimano Citica and for spinning I have the Shimano Sienna. Both have been good to me so far this year.

i actually prefer to cast over my left shoulder with my right hand casting. usually cast sidearm going right to right. I say whatever way you feel comfortable with and most accurate, go with that. learning all the different casts you can make to get it in the strike zone is all part of the fun package!

baitcasting/golf analogy:

you have your driver, for long distance casts. The basic over the shoulder and side arm casts which forms the foundation for your short game.

you have many options for the short game. just like in the short game for golf, you want to approach soft. a stealthy quiet entry into the water. you can rollcast for short and medium distances and use pitch and flip techniques to putt it in the "hole".

i can't really explain it, but my accuracy improved dramatically once i got the hang of it. the raw power of a baitcasting over a spinning is enough to keep me coming back.

thanks augy. i got out again today and am getting better every cast. main problem i have is if i miscast short and try to stop i get a hideous birdsnest! but thus far i do have to admit (gulp) I am beginning to see more control over casting in general. maybe its not just a bunch of hot air after all.
