:?
r u kiddin me? krispy kream all the way baby!!

i stopped by axehead for a peak yesterday and fish were jumpin. and guess where they were jumpin. woohoo!

so what's the official time we're getting together? i'm thinking 4:30 would be safe. not many folks will be up that early. we'll meet on the south end and if you want to fish elsewhere that's totally cool. who knows, the southside may not be the hot spot this time. :?:

also, remember to get your inland trout stamps if you haven't already. THEY WILL BE CHECKIN LICENSES!

Me and my buddy are going this Saturday to Axehead. For all of y'all that have fished trout season before what's the best set up? I have a light reel with 8 lb test on a 6' shakespeare. Was going to put a barrel swivel on with end with a 1.5 to 2' 4lb mono leader ending with #8 hook and fishing with berkeley trout nuggets(original formula). split shot to weigh it down.

Option two would be to use a tri-swivel with a 1/2 oz bass weight on one of the ends, the 4lb leader on the second terminal end and on the 3rd, the 8lb leading to my reel.

If you got better set ups please holler.

Al (thorsonth) :)

Thorsonth, your setup sounds like it should work. Augy had better luck with 4# line last spring than I did with 6#. If anything, I would make your leader a little longer because it won't hurt. I just spooled up my reel yesterday with some 4# fluoro material. A #8 hook should be fine, as long as the shank isn't too long. You want to be able to cover the hook with the trout nuggets. I use a 6'6'' light action rod, but a medium action will work fine. We'll be at the south end of the lake around 4:30, so stop by and say hello. Good luck!

looks good Al. like doc says, perhaps a little longer leader so you can adjust if need be. as long as the u can get the hook to float with the powerbait, you should be ok. hope to see you out there!

also, with a medium action using a 4# leader, you will want to set your drag real loose. they will be swallowing the bait so you really don't have to set the hook and worry about them popping off.

Sunrise was at 7:08 this morning, so figure about 7:10. The lake opens at 5:00, if you want to wait until the sun comes up that's fine, but by then it will be a zoo. Since the opener is on a Saturday, I would either get there early or wait until late morning after the initial crowds have died down. Any place along the shore should be fine.

Good luck guys. I may stop by about 8:00 to see how it's going
(my son has a football game at 9:00 close to AxeHead)

Have fun and limit quick........ the weather looks nasty.

Weather.com 5am: 44F, 30% chance precip, wind S6mph, cloudy
Wunderground.com 7am: 40F, 10% chance precip, wind SW5mph, cloudy

It'll have to be really pouring to keep me home. So it looks like a go!

Good luck everyone... should be fun!
