Last Man (or woman) Standing

I don't know which gender pronoun to use for a fishing site anymore. I'd hate to get that wrong and be non-PC. Yeah right.:ROFLMAO:

'Just got word that ChitTownAngler is turning off the lights for good in a couple of months. Of the big four, WCF will be the last site standing. Angling One Hundred and One was the first to go. ChicagoLandFishing is basically a history archive and now ChitTown feels not worthy enough to live and has chosen suicide. That leaves only this site to carry on.

Long live WindyCityFishing!

I liked ChiTown and used to participate but didn't like their stance that they owned my pictures, not me, and I quit posting. When I resigned my duties at Angling One Hundred and One, I made clear not to screw with me like I saw done to the previous exiting staff whenever any of them would break free. I guess that was too much to ask, so I immediately moved my off-site hosted photos to new folders, breaking links to around 2000 pics that adorned my reports and other posts. The site looked like crap with all the little error squares and missing photo messages.

I only check in about once a month on ChiTown and just happened to today, the day of the going out of business announcement. I did author one of it's biggest threads that ended up with 30,000+ views. I posted all the knowledge I got from cletedius, bassin larry, some asian twins and my own experimentation for using artificials for perch and I guess there was a whole lot of interest. :D

I hate to see any of these sites go or peter out. I don't plan on ever joining Facebook unless I do so for some commercial purpose.

If they would have given it another year, they would have made it to 20 years. It was a different time back then. Both Rambler and myself had our full faculties. Actually, I didn't know Rambler then so I really can't vouch if that ever was the case for him.

What I thought weird about the comments in the pull-the-plug announcement thread, there were many thanking for the years of providing the website, but not a single soul asking to reconsider the decision.

I still can't believe no members have asked or pleaded not to shut down the site yet. They all have just rolled over and accepted the decision. Why not sell it to verticalscope or similar website purchaser? If no offers for cash, why not pass the site on to a member or members that will pay the modest hosting subscription and keep it going? It's like person going to commit suicide and no one opens their mouth to convince them not too. "I liked you when you were alive and hate to see you go. Ok-go ahead and pull the plug. You'll be missed--maybe. OK, bye now"

Is Rambler still standing? He normally posts 9 posts an hour. Now nothing in 9 days. I fear he touched something he shouldn't have and is now part of the grid.

Ah, he's probably just volunteering in Virginia, helping steal an otherwise lost election.

At one time there was some competition between all the sites when they were still widely popular, however Chitown and WCF always stayed out of the fray.
It was worse than most even knew behind the scenes. CTA was involved with Marc even taking a restraining order out on one of the other site owners. They'd tail each other around. Even hire private investigators. Show up each others' court dates. Insane rivalry. Two sites worked together sharing IP address info of their members trying to figure out who certain "mystery members" were. Now nobody seems to care much at all and this weird behavior seems silly.

Nice invite written over there Matt for lost members to come over here. Written perfectly! (y)

Still haven't seen the Rambler, though. Maybe he joined Chitown? He likes dead-end causes.

I'm still sticking with my theory he slid on the mud banks of the the Des Plaines, bumped his head, and now is running around for the last few weeks thinking he's Santa Claus. The cool thing about Rambler is that he never gives out lumps of coal. They are, after all, fossil fuel. 😈

Rambler. Where art thou?
I thinks he's officially gone, riding off into the sunset like the Western heroes do.

If you click on his name that so litters up this site, you'd see that he hasn't even been on in 9 days, not even to see what we are saying about him. You all know I've tried everything to trick him to post but nothing has worked.

I still think it must have been a political spat he had with someone. He's probably the most educated man man on nature we've seen. He knows every butterfly, bug, flower and meaningless bird there is. The more he learns, the more he refuses to accept a creator for all of these cool things. That leaves him to put his faith in imbeciles and scam artists like John Kerry and Al Gore to save his grand kids from immanent destruction. He's got to be disillusioned to say the least even tho it's all under control but not by his buffoon saviors. That's got to do strange things to the brain and I'm guessing he had a spat over his ineffectual heroes or arguing that DJ Trump was the worst president ever. Political heroes are just temporary players on the stage and offer no lasting solutions to anything.

Well, it's late in the month and the site is still up and running with fishing reports and guys listing classifieds. Go take a peak if you want a last look.

I still wish he'd reconsider keeping it going. Alternatives would be to pass it on somehow to someone else or freeze it where it's at for some time and leave all the helpful info and reports up that members have spent so much time contributing.

Five days into 2022 and the site is still up, but no posts in 4 days. I wonder if they are blocking any new posts. I'd do a test post but I don't have an active account there.

I guess Chi-Town is gone for good! I just clicked on the bookmark for it that I had always used and nothing happens. (it was still up for months, but you could not post, only read the old stuff) R.I.P.
