I've been using a baitcaster for a couple of years now and have gotten better with practice, but still prefer spincasting.

Like Eye says, keep at it.

My 2 cents...if you are like me and just enjoy getting out and fishing with limited time, then get a halfway decent one and use it when you've got time to spend picking birdsnests and pondering the benefits of better spinning gear! seriously, I would be just as happy without a baitcaster as I am with one, maybe moreso.

Definetly practice and don't get discouraged. Just like when most of us as kids switched over from the trusty Zebco to our first spinning reels, their is a learning curve. There is no shame practicing in your yard or driveway although you neighbors might think you a little loco.

Like the saying goes, practice makes perfect. I had tried a baitcaster a number of years ago and never got the hang of it. Mostly because it was a cheapo one and didn't work very well. Then several years ago Culprit talked me into trying it again and I purchased a Revo SX. What a world of difference! Now I own a number of baitcasters and rarely use a spinning setup anymore. So if an old dog like me can learn to do it, anyone can.

as most of these guys have said you probably cannot go wrong with an abu garcia revo. i have the stx and it is easily the best low profile baitcater i have ever had... and i will assume that the enitre line is just a good including the new ones with even lower gear ratios. howver if it is your first setup i might not put fireline on. the diameter is so low that when you get backlash (birdsnests) the line get buried in the reel and sometime is a lot harder to fix and sometimes are not able to be undone. i would go with a braid jus because of a slightly bigger diameter and it flexes better than fireline and sinks instead of floats which i think is better if you are going to use the setup to throw plastics or crankbaits. if you are looking more topwater then fireline would help keep everything at the surface. plus i think hookses are better with braid because there is a little more stretch to it. hope you find something you like...
