I commend you guys for looking out for the best interests of the lake. I am an advocate of the aerated cooler as well. I have tried the bucket thing and just don't feel comfortable with it, especially when you have several fish on a stringer. Like Ryan has said, keeping the water cool seems to very important. Also, from a guy who has handled lots of fish at weigh-ins, the aerated pump system that runs about $40 by far is the way to keep the fish the freshest. Those fish are so lively they are very hard to keep calm enough to weigh. No stress on those fish at all from what I have noticed. Even though I have not bought one of those flush style aerators myself yet, my stance would be to make those mandatory for the best interest of the fish. Anyways, these tournaments are an imperfect science and there will always be bumps in the road as we find out better ways to do things.

I`ve been going to Deep Lake for almost 20 years and that 200 acre lake has probably never seen the pressure it has seen in the last 3 years.
In all due respect my friend I have talked to Jack and in years past business was better than ever. As he told me ....his resort was packed most every weekend(now that could also include cook out and fishing..ect...) they are now thankfull for the new buseness/interest WCF has brought. Even with the renewed interest in the lake he still said "it's nothing like the old days" Maybe we need to ask Jack what he thinks?

Just a thought !!!!

I have fished 3 WCF Tournies. The first two I fished with a stringer. The last I made a livewell (that I never used  ) It cost me $20. A big plastic storage tub from Target and an Aerator. I hated the stringer. I think if you spread the tourneys more, incorporate Busse more into the schedule and outlaw the stringers. It would make the Deep Lake resident happy. After that, there is not much else you can do. Except, not have the tournaments. We all do our best to CPR. But, sometimes dead fish will happen.

I think the Tribune tournament held each year in May that yields roughly 40 boats does more damage to this fishery in a single day than all of our tournaments combined. A lot of them bass never make it back in the water. Goes straight in the icebox.     :!: :!:

I'm kind of happy and relieved WCF members were banned from the Tribune tournament for taking all the top honors last year. lol

Hide brings up an interesting point. If the residents really did care about the fishery of this lake, why would they kill off one of the best thing going for it...the green lush healthy weeds that the fish thrive on? Usually after iceout, the weeds were as healthy as I last saw them in the fall. Last week, nothing but thin dead brown brushy weeds.

Mike ,I was talking about fishing pressure not his business renting cottages and people paying to picnic, swimming and bbqing & ofcourse drinking at the bar.

Augy we cant control what others do on that lake , we can just hopefully control what we do with our tournies.

Guys, I think we need another Crown Royal meeting :D

I know ...he was talking about both fishing and other aspects but i did ask about fishing and he did say there were times in the past years ( in the 70's i think he said ) that it was packed every weekend  So looking at it now we are a small amount of pressure on the lake.
and we do a great deal to preserve the fish in the lake on the days we do visit.

Sounds good to me pick a day but NO geisha bar this time lol...

i respect dawgfish wishes because i would probably feel the same if i was a resident "angler".

but slider, your preaching does nothing for the cause. your constant bitching is annoying. quit your whining and contribute positively to the site.

Very interesting. I think dawgfish is in the minority when it comes to lake residents wishes. I feel bad for him, and guys like him, that enjoy fishing but also live on a lake that puts the ability to water ski ahead of any biological balance.

You guys really might want to spread it out to some more lakes. I see potential for a small scale version of the "Delavan homeowners association vs. local fishermen" situation when I look at Deep lake. (Up there they have a homeowners assc. that makes decisions concerning upkeep of the lake, weedkills, and all the rules for those who use it. They have recently gained control of all previously "open to the public" roadside parking around the lake to severely limit access. All because it started getting too busy. They worked with the city to get it all posted "no-parking".) Not the exact same situation, I know, but the similarity is that they are both lakes where a homeowners assc calls the shots. I think its a safe bet that the Deep lake homeowners assc would jump at any excuse they are given to shut down the rental operation. The final reason they would ban fishing by non-residents would be based on the fishing boats taking up water skiing space, not the stress on the aquatic life. Ironic, because a ski boat running at 25mph in 5 feet of water all day long surely does more harm to the underwater world than c&r fishing.

  Ill buy a round of beer after the next tourney and maybe we can all get along?
I dont think there is currently any conflict with the deep lake residents and Jack and Lydias. I always got the impression that Jack was a sort of community leader/link to the lakes past as a resort destination. Also- he doesnt have all of those boats for no reason.
